NEWS: BEDMO DIGITAL & B-FUNK DIGI OUT NOW

Exciting news for all those DJs who use Serato, Traktor or CDs… lots of Bedmo Disco Records treats have now dropped on digital download.

This week has seen the release of the first EP in our new download-only series, BEDMO DIGITAL VOL 1. This features hot scalpel edits from FLX ONE and BEDMO DISCO. You can get Bedmo Digital 01 at Junodownload.com.

Also available (as of today, fact fans) is AWON and BEDMO DISCO’s B-FUNK, which gained much praise when we dropped it on blue vinyl earlier in the year. That, too, is now available to buy at Junodownload.com.

As ever, we appreciate your support. If you like our releases, let the world know – either via social media, blogs or just by playing them loud in sweaty basements to groups of gurning disco freaks.

NEWS: B-FUNK 12″ LANDS AT JUNO

There was a rush of excitement at Bedmo Disco HQ this morning when our copies of the “B-FUNK” 12″ arrived. There was another one a bit later when we realized that it had gone on sale at Juno Records.

If you like it and would like one of the limited edition, blue vinyl 12″ singles we’ve pressed up, you better get over to Juno pronto. Click here to be taken there in a flash, by the magic of the internet.

If you’ve not heard the tracks yet, there’s a preview file on Soundcloud here>>

If you do like it and buy it, let people know – tweet, blog, play it in clubs, shout it from the roof tops, that kind of thing. Think of it as good karma – letting the world know about a record that looks nice and (we think) sounds good. We will, of course, be very grateful.

NEWS: SOME PEOPLE LIKE “B-FUNK”

We don’t particularly like blowing our own trumpet here at Bedmo Disco HQ, but needs must. As you’re probably all aware by our constant postings on the subject, the “B-FUNK” EP by AWON and BEDMO DISCO will be hitting stores in less time than it takes to say “discombobulated”. OK, so perhaps a little longer, but it will be in some stores this week. Excitingly, rather a lot of people seem to like it, which makes us excited and rather chuffed.

So, who’s saying what? First of all, we’ve picked up a review from a blog called This Is Why We Dance. This is run by veteran dance music journalist, former IDJ mag Editor and all round good cheese Russell Deeks. Click here if you want to know what he has to say about “B-Funk”.

DJ reactions have also been very good. There are far too many to post here, so we’ve picked a few out:

Bonar Bradberry (PBR Streetgang, Asylum, We Love Space Ibiza) – “Best Bedmo Disco release yet! Some great sampling in there – proper chops. Gonna get loads of play from me this summer.”
Jerome Derradji (Still Music, Chicago) – “Really really like this release, excellent all round!
Red Rack’em (Bergerac/Smugglers Inn Radio) – “This is nice. Will play something on my show.”
Christophe (Futureboogie Recordings) – “Super ACE! This will be getting played at Space this weekend, thank you. 5/5”
Cosmo Vitelli – “Pure modern boogie. Like it.”
Diskjokke (Sunkissed, Oslo) – “Nice, grooving EP”
Damon Martin (Disco Bloodbath) – “Solid grooves”
Andy Ash (Boogie Originals/On The Prowl) – “LOVE “Startime”. All tracks are good though”
Cazbee (Mixed Blood Cuts) – “Nice EP…”
Cosmic Boogie (Boogie Originals) – “Illusion is great”
Drop Out Orchestra – “Boogie Down Bedmo is the one for us. What is it good for? Our sets! Love it.”
Martin Roche (Get Down Edits) – “Great EP! Really Feelin Illusion”
Andrew Clarke – “A very strong EP of boogie inspired cuts. My fave is Startime!”
Rob J (Main Stem) – “Cuckoo indeed……Startime for moi.”
Solid State (All Out War) – “Great release – congratulations on 5 years of Disco Madness – full support from ALL OUT WAR x”
Neil Scott (El Diablo’s Social Club) – “Great release. 5/5”
Havana Candy – “Some fine Clinton influenced business going on here, Boogie Down Dub is the one for me. Great Dj’ing track, top mid-tempo dirtyness!”
Chris Massey (Electric Elephant) – “Yup, am feeling every track on this release. Some great use of samples throughout and lovely sounding analogue basslines. Great release! 5/5”
Danielle Moore (Crazy P) – “Startime my fave-love the squelchiness of the bass line and the flecks of melody. Boogie Down Dub great too. Sure fire release”
Ste Hodge (Kat Records) – “Illusion sounds especially great…eerie pads ,squelchy bass and wicked grooves aplenty”
Billy Scurry (Ireland) – “Awesomeness!!! V strong EP, full support on all tracks!”
Frank Lihaug (Contra, Bergen, Norway) – “Startime – What a track! Love it :)”
Joe Morris (Polaroid) – “Strong package, thanks”
Murry Pretscherer (Radio Ponsonby, Auckland, New Zealand) – “Dunno if its Illusion or Boogie Down Dub as a favourite, but then what about Goodlovin? All killer, no filler.”

So there you go, lots of nice comments. Thanks to all those who like it and are playing it in their sets. If you’ve still not given it a whirl, check out all four tracks on the Soundcloud player below. You can also find out more about the release here >>

NEWS: MORE FROM “B-FUNK” FOR YER EARS!

By now, you probably already know that this month marks five years (yes, five long years) of Bedmo Disco, and that we’re celebrating by releasing a special, limited edition blue vinyl 12″ featuring new, original productions from AWON and BEDMO DISCO. You’ve probably already heard a couple of the tracks; if so, we hope you enjoyed them.

Above is the latest preview track. It’s the second of AWON’s tracks. It’s called “GOOD LOVIN”. It’s another boogielicious electrofunk re-imagining-slash-re-sub with a modern, rush-inducing twist. We like it loads and have been playing it shedloads of late. It rarely lets us down. Anyways, give it a listen and let us know what you think.

The 12″, entitled “B-FUNK”, will be released on June 25. Keep ’em peeled!

NEWS: SECOND “B-FUNK” PREVIEW ONLINE

Yes, yes, yes! This morning we posted up the second preview of what you can expect from our fifth anniversary, blue vinyl 12″ – “B-Funk” by AWON and BEDMO DISCO. This is a ludicrously heavy chunk of voodoo boogie that we’re calling “ILLUSION“. It was produced by Five-Stylez for Bedmo Disco, with additional instruments by Awon. Sell By Dave mainly sat around going “this is good” and offering groove-based advice, some of which was rubbish.

Anyway, have a listen on the Soundcloud player above and let us know what you think. The EP will land later in June, so keep ’em peeled for more previews 🙂

NEWS: AWON & BEDMO DISCO 12″ ON THE WAY!

Regular Bedmo Disco Soundcloud followers may have noticed a new track appearing on our profile on Sunday night. It’s by our studio pal, DJ partner and all round sound geezer AWON. It’s called STARTIME and it’s one of four tracks on the next label release – a split 12″ featuring proper tracks (not edits, actual tracks) from AWON and BEDMO DISCO.

Over the next few weeks we’ll be posting up each of the tracks so you can have a listen and let us know what you think. All four cuts are heavily influenced by original ’80s electrofunk, boogie and electro dubs, as well as contemporary house (particularly in terms of structure and production techniques) and disco.

The 12″ is called “B-FUNK” – short for “BEDMO FUNK”, what we’ve decided to call our style (this week, at least) – and will be released in June, almost five years to the day since the release of our first ever re-edits 12″, BEDMO DISCO VOLUME 1. It’s being pressed up in limited quantities on blue vinyl and should hit stores around the 24th June.

We’re rather proud of the EP and hope you all like it. Initially, it was born out of a productive, two-month period of work at Awon’s home studio in Totterdown and our North St Sound base. We’d contacted Awon about playing some instruments on a particular track we wanted to make, and ended up spending the next two months working on tracks together. It was enough to inspire each of us to do more work on our own, too, and all four tracks feature various contributions from each of us. Awon played synths, guitars and added percussion to the Bedmo Disco tracks, while Sell By Dave and Five-Stylez offered advice on structure for Awon’s tracks. Five-Stylez brought a near complete track to the studio one night and wowed us all. That’s made it onto the EP, alongside a re-rub of a track produced by both Bedmo Disco DJs (but never released) at the tail end of 2010.

It all adds up to what we think is a strong EP. It was very enjoyable to make. You can listen to the first track from the EP, Awon’s “Startime”, above. More previews to come over the next couple of weeks 🙂

UPDATE: Bedmo Disco news belch!

There’s an awful lot happening at Bedmo Disco HQ right now, so we thought we’d update you on forthcoming attractions – new releases, DJ dates, radio appearances, that kind of thing.

BEDMO DISCO ON PASSION RADIO BRISTOL

After a few weeks away, we’re back on the virtual wireless today (Monday 23rd April) for our regular slot on Passion Radio Bristol. From 5pm BST (4pm UTC) we’ll be dropping our usual blend of great music old and new, flitting between genres and giving you a few sneaky previews of forthcoming label material. You can tune in online at http://www.passionradiobristol.co.uk.

We’re always keen to hear what you think, so during the show don’t forget to send us your tweets – shout-outs, requests, what you think of our choices etc. You can tweet at either @bedmodisco or @passionrb – we’ll be keeping tabs on both accounts.

BUY JIMMY THE TWIN’S 505 FUNK 12″

The next Bedmo Disco Records release comes from our pal JIMMY THE TWIN. It’s called “505 Funk (With An 808 Boom)” and features four colossal, heavyweight re-edits in Jimmy’s unique style – all featuring additional percussion from vintage drum machines. The feedback so far has been immense, so we’re hoping this one has legs and will do well. Before you ask, it will also be coming out digitally, but not for ages. Make Jimmy smile (and us, too) and buy a 12″ when it hits stores next Monday, April 30.

You can listen to clips of all four tracks by checking out the BEDM005 Jimmy The Twin release page on this very website, or by checking out the Soundcloud set here >>

Jimmy has recorded a special edition of our BEDMOCAST mix series, which we’ll be sticking online later this week. It’s ace, so keep ’em peeled for the upload!

AWON & BEDMO DISCO’S B-FUNK EP

The big news from Bedmo Disco HQ is that Awon and Bedmo Disco’s new EP of original productions is finally complete, mastered, and ready to be pressed onto heavyweight vinyl. It’s called B-Funk and will be out in early June on blue vinyl – just in time for the summer festival season.

The idea for the EP came about last autumn, when we proposed to Awon the idea of getting together and making some tracks. He was keen, so we spent two or three nights a week for a couple of months working on tunes. Awon played us some things he was working on and we lent a hand on some or offered advice on others. We also wrote a number of tunes together, and he played instruments/MPC on some others we’d been working on. The result is an EP that we’re really proud of. Hopefully other people will enjoy our handiwork, too.

On the A side you’ll find two synth-heavy boogie/electrofunk jams from Awon with a contemporary twist. Heavily inspired by old dubs of original ’80s synth-funk/electrofunk records, both “Startime” and “Good Lovin” revolve around insatiably nagging basslines, dubbed-out synth lines (many played on his trusty Roland JX-3P) and original drum machine percussion. Think Tiger and Woods making 1983 New York boogie dubs, and you’re close. Sort of. Either way, they’re ace.

On the B you’ll find two tracks from ourselves, Bedmo Disco. The first, “Illusion”, was brought to a recording session by Five-Stylez in almost complete form. A few tweaks and additional playing by Awon later, it was finished. We’ve been playing in relentlessly in our sets since then and it’s a bit of a beast – it rarely fails to get a good reaction. We call it “voodoo boogie”, ‘cos it’s chuggy, druggy, intoxicating and features a monster synth bassline. It’ll fit into house sets, and has a house kind of groove and sensibility, but it’s very much an electrofunk record. The other track of ours on the EP is “Boogie Down Dub”, a track originally recorded for a Big Chill Bristol promo video last year. We dusted it down, rearranged it and added a bunch of new percussive elements (mostly played in by Awon, for the record). According to one Bristol-based DJ, it sounds like Yello. We’re not so sure. It’s certainly synth heavy and again features a nagging bassline.

We’ll post preview clips of the whole EP on Soundcloud very soon. In the meantime, we’ll be busting out the masters on Passion Radio Bristol this afternoon.

DJ DATES UPDATE

Finally, we have a few DJ dates to give you a heads up about. Firstly, we’re delighted to announce that we’ll be playing the Shambarber tent/arena/area at Love Saves The Day, a brand new festival which will take place in Castle Park, Bristol, on Sunday, June 3, alongside Behling and Simpson (disco set) and many others. It should be a lot of fun.

Aside from that, you can also catch us upstairs at the Big Chill Bristol on Saturday May 5 and warming up for Cosmic Boogie at the same venue on Saturday June 2. We’ll also be having a special fifth birthday bash in June – stay tuned for more details. If all that wasn’t enough, we’ll also be at Soundwave Croatia from July 19-22, playing an Awon & Bedmo Disco set. Big tings!
